Power Without Responsibility Weakens Democracy

Hello America,

Thought:

A democracy grows fragile when people chase power but avoid responsibility, and grows strong again when leaders, institutions, and citizens each carry their share of the burden.

Reflection:
Responsibility must rise again because a democracy cannot function when everyone wants the power but no one wants the burden. When leaders seek the spotlight but avoid accountability, when institutions make promises but dodge consequences, and when citizens demand rights but forget duties, the entire system begins to wobble. Responsibility is the stabilizing force that keeps freedom from collapsing into chaos.

Nations thrive when responsibility is shared, leaders act with discipline, institutions uphold their commitments, and citizens participate with seriousness rather than cynicism. Without responsibility, trust erodes. And when trust erodes, democracy becomes fragile.

MADA Moment:
On a scale of 1 to 5, how responsibly do you believe public servants carry out their duties to the people they serve?

⭐ 1 = Poor
⭐⭐ 2 = Fair
⭐⭐⭐ 3 = Average
⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4 = Good
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 = Excellent

If your answer is less than a 5, what small act of Responsibility could help improve the situation?

In MADA, a snowball is any small act that spreads Decency, Dignity, Honesty, Integrity, or Responsibility.

A conversation is a snowball.

A kind word is a snowball.

A thoughtful response is a snowball.

An act of Responsibility is a snowball.

And every avalanche begins with a few snowballs.

Remember, the Spirit of Adventure lightens the load in all that we do.

Thank you,

Bobby Sawick
